Attendance
-
It is extremely important for your child to attend school daily and be on time in order to take full advantage of the educational program. If your child is going to be absent from school, we ask that you call the main school office to verify the absence at 805-498-0324 or email us scsattendance@conejousd.org at by 10:00 a.m. You can call before or after school hours and leave a message. Please state your name, student’s name, room number and reason for absence. If you do not call, please send a note with your child when they return to school with the above information.
The State of California and Board of Education approved reasons for absences are:
- Illness or injury;
- A quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer;
- A medical, dental, optometric or chiropractic appointment that can only be scheduled during school hours.
- Attendance at funeral services for a member of the immediate family.
We request that vacations be arranged on days when school is not in session so that students do not miss valuable, instructional time.
Students will eventually get sick during the school year so we want to make sure everyone has the school procedures for makeup work.
1st day of illness, no work will be handed out. Students will receive missed work the day they return.
2nd day of illness forward, available work will be placed in front office upon request from parent to teacher. If not requested, students will receive missed work the day they return.
When a student returns to school, only essential assignments will be made up as per the teacher. Many assignments cannot be duplicated such as direct instruction, group work, a science experiment, etc.
Work may not be requested early for vacations, trips, or other unexcused absences that do not fall into the Independent Study Contract time frame of 3 – 14 days.
INDEPENDENT STUDY (available for TK-5 only) In order to qualify for this the student must be out of school a minimum of “3” school days. The teacher MUST receive at least 14 days prior notice of this absence in order to prepare the work needed to go out on independent study. Once approved by student’s teacher, parent must fill out paper work in the Main Office. The work MUST be returned to student’s teacher upon returning to school in order for the student to receive credit and an “Excused” Absence.
Prolonged absences or illness may require home teaching. Contact the Sycamore Canyon School main office for more information.
Middle School Absences If you are planning on taking your student out of school for personal reasons, submit a completed Planned Student Absence Request Form to the attendance office at least one week prior to the date of absence. Taking a personal absence without prior written permission will be considered an unexcused absence/truancy. Vacations are NOT excused absences.
Once you submit the request, if administration approves the dates, we will then call your student into the office and give your student the form for each teacher to fill out. *It will be the teacher’s decision to give work before the absence, or to wait until student returns to school.* If you have any questions, please call the attendance phone number, 805-498 - 0324. Please note that administrators will review current attendance and grades as contributing factors for approval or denial.PARENTS must call within 72 hours to clear an absence, or the absence will be marked TRUANT.
Tardy Students are encouraged to make every effort to be on time. Students who enter the classroom late disrupt the learning environment for others as well as themselves. Only tardiness due to illness or doctor or dental appointments is excused. Late students must report to the main office to obtain admittance to class.
