Congratulations to Stefanie Caswell and Tracy Abraham: 2023 Tri-County GATE Council Awardees

Conejo Valley Unified School District is proud to share that two CVUSD teachers are being honored by the Tri-County GATE Council as individuals who have made the world better for gifted and talented students and their families.

Congratulations to Stefanie Caswell, CVUSD’s GATE Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), and Tracy Abraham, Sycamore Canyon School 4th grade teacher and GATE Elementary Representative for receiving the 2023 We Honor Our Own (WHOO) Award from the Tri-County GATE Council.

Tri-County GATE Council is a group of educators, parents/guardians, administrators, community representatives, and family members, from the counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo, who are dedicated to sharing best teaching practices, enriching educational opportunities and nurturing the social and emotional well-being of gifted and talented children.

Each year Tri-County GATE Council solicits nominations for teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and community members who have made outstanding contributions to the education of gifted students. This year, Tri-County GATE Council acknowledges those who have made significant contributions over the last three years, given the challenges for our GATE community during the pandemic. Award recipients were selected by the Tri-County GATE Council Recognition Committee.

CVUSD’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) provides qualitatively differentiated learning experiences for students with unique abilities, interests and talents with the expectation that students will be successful learners capable of performing at high levels of ability. Research has shown that specialized instructional strategies, along with opportunities for gifted students to interact with each other on a regular basis, yield higher academic performance, as well as improved social and emotional well-being.
