Q: What is “acceleration?”
A: “Acceleration” refers to taking a course in order to “get ahead.” Some students choose to accelerate in order to be able to take the next sequential course, others choose to reduce the stress of their upcoming school year (or to be able to fit in more elective courses). Q: What is “remediation?”
A: “Remediation” refers to repeating a course in order to earn a higher grade and/or to “recover” credits.
Q: What happens to a transcript if a student repeats a course?
A: If a student repeats a course in which a C or higher was already earned (NOT recommended), BOTH the “new” grade AND the “old” grade will appear on the transcript. NO CREDIT will be applied to the transcript for that new grade, AND the “new” grade will NOT be factored into the NPHS GPA.
If a student repeats a course in which a D or F was already earned, and earns a C or higher, BOTH the “new” grade AND the “old” grade will appear on the transcript. CREDIT will be applied to the transcript for the higher grade (and be removed from the transcript for the lower grade), AND the “new” grade WILL be factored into the NPHS GPA (the “old” D or F will no longer be factored into the NPHS GPA).
This is a CVUSD policy as well as a policy many 4-year colleges follow (some colleges have different policies regarding GPA…it is up to the potential applicant to research specific policies if the applicant has questions).
Q: Where can I accelerate/remediate?
A: Students who seek to accelerate/remediate a course AND to have the grades/credits from the course(s) added to the NPHS transcript are encouraged to search for an accredited program that issues grades, credits, and an official transcript. Students are able to apply up to 40 credits from schools that are not affiliated with CVUSD (there is no limit on the number of credits that can be transferred to the NPHS transcript from courses taken in our District summer school). To have the credits from off-campus applied to the NPHS transcript, the student needs to ensure that an official transcript has been sent to hosinski@conejousd.org . CREDITS FROM OFF-CAMPUS SCHOOLS DO NOT "AUTOMATICALLY" TRANSFER TO YOUR NPHS TRANSCRIPT! IF YOU DONT HAVE AN OFFICAL ONE SENT, IT WON'T APPEAR ON YOUR NPHS TRANSCRIPT. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPTS TO YOUR COUNSELOR...SEND ONLY TO hosinski@conejousd.org .
