Internship Program

  • The Conejo Valley Unified School District Communications Department is proud to begin year two of its Internship Program for the 2022-2023 school year. The internship opportunity is designed for high school students who are interested in storytelling, creating digital content, and graphic design. The goal of the program is to provide students with hands-on experience in the field of communication and to ultimately be a “communications ambassador” for the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

Internship Overview

  • The internship opportunity is open to high school students who are currently enrolled in the 11th and 12th grade in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. There are no prerequisites and no minimum GPA required. There is an application and interview process. Student intern(s) will work collaboratively with the District's Communication team and independently to complete projects and assignments. Ideal candidates have a passion for journalism and digital communications, work collaboratively with others in a team setting, excel while working independently, and are eager to learn. The internship is non-paid, however, student(s) who complete a full semester will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation upon request.

Intern(s) will cover news and events happening throughout the entire school district. The specialties covered in the program consist of: journalism - with the opportunity to have a byline on news content posted to the District’s website, video production, marketing, graphic design - including flyer and brochure design, creating promotional materials, social media content, website design and more.

Time commitment for this program is estimated to be about 1.5 hours to three hours per week, with the opportunity to complete internship projects at the District Educational Office located at 1400 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks.  Interns may also work on projects remotely and/or visit CVUSD school sites as part of the internship program. Time commitment may vary weekly, is flexible, and may be based on projects (pitched and/or selected by student(s). Intern(s) may be assigned to “beats” based on their interests and the communication needs of specific elementary and/or middle school sites.

  • High school students (grades 11 and 12 in the 2022-2023 school year) with an interest in journalism, communications, video production, marketing, website design and/or graphic design are encouraged to apply.
